Frequently asked questions
Everything therapists ask before switching.
Is TheraScribe HIPAA compliant?▾
Yes — by architecture. Session audio is discarded immediately after transcription. The transcript is discarded after your note is generated. No PHI is ever stored on our servers, which eliminates the most common source of HIPAA breach liability.
How accurate is the transcription for clinical vocabulary?▾
We use AssemblyAI Universal-3 Pro with Medical Mode — a model specifically trained on clinical and mental health terminology. It understands diagnostic terms, CBT/DBT interventions, medication names, and more. Words with lower confidence are flagged inline so you can spot and fix them in seconds.
What note formats are supported?▾
SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan), DAP (Data, Assessment, Plan), and BIRP (Behavior, Intervention, Response, Plan) — the three most common formats in outpatient mental health. You select the format per session.
Can it handle group therapy with multiple speakers?▾
Yes. Speaker diarization automatically separates and labels each voice. Every transcript segment is color-coded by speaker, and the AI uses that structure when writing your note.
What happens when I go over my included minutes?▾
Sessions keep working — there is no hard cutoff. Overage is billed at $0.10/min (Solo), $0.08/min (Practice), or $0.06/min (Group+). You can see your usage in real time from your dashboard.
Does it integrate with my EHR?▾
TheraScribe generates a formatted note that you copy and paste into any EHR — SimplePractice, TherapyNotes, Jane, or anything else. Direct EHR integration is on the roadmap.
How long does it take to get my note?▾
Transcription typically takes 1–2 minutes for a 50-minute session. Note generation adds 15–30 seconds. Most therapists have a review-ready note within 3 minutes of ending the session.
